Is Candida Your Problem? 8 Signs of Overgrowth & How to Get the Balance Back

Mysterious weight gain, sugar cravings, headaches and fatigue?

Candida overgrowth may be to blame.

Candida is just one of the many natural—and necessary—microorganisms in the human body, and proper balance among those organisms is one of the keys to good health. When overgrowth occurs, your body sends various signals, and tries to regain the biological balance. So, what is Candida? How does overgrowth happen? What are the symptoms and what can you do if you suspect yeast is causing your mysterious health problems? Let’s get acquainted with this often overlooked element of health.

Just what is Candida?

Candida albicans is a fungal yeast that is always present in your intestinal and urinary tracts. Your gut is also full of natural, friendly bacteria that feed on the yeast, keeping the levels low. Alongside millions of good bacteria, this yeast aids with digestion. However when there is a decrease of the good bacteria, candida grows without a countering factor, forming root-like structures that drill into the walls of the intestines. This process funnels fungus and toxins directly into the blood stream, and then throughout the body. This can lead to a range of health problems, from digestive issues to weight gain.

So, how do you get out of balance?

Healthy bacteria in your gut keep yeast and candida in check, however there are plenty of factors that can cause overgrowth. A few of the most common triggers include:

  • Eating a diet high in sugar and refined carbohydrates that feeds the yeast, causing it to grow rapidly.
  • Taking antibiotics that can wipe out the good bacteria which balances candida.
  • Drinking fermented alcoholic beverages like beer, wine, brandy, whiskey, and rum.
  • Consuming excessive amounts of vinegar in foods like salad dressing, pickled foods, and sauerkraut. (This excludes apple cider vinegar, which is not yeast-producing.)
  • Taking steroids and other drugs that restrain the immune system, decreasing resistance to yeast

Stress, which can compromise your immune system, also enhances the prospect of candida overgrowth. Even your thyroid is a factor— as many as 1 in 10 people have compromised thyroid function which interferes with your defense to yeast.

Women are commonly susceptible to yeast due to hormone fluctuations and even birth control pills.

What are symptoms of Candida overgrowth?

When yeast spreads, reproduces and distributes throughout your cells, almost every part of the body will feel the effects. You may experience unexplained health issues such as:

  • Weight fluctuation, or inability to lose weight
  • Intense fatigue and headaches
  • Digestive issues (bloating, flatulence, indigestion, constipation or diarrhea)
  • Insatiable cravings for sugar or carbs
  • Sinus congestion
  • Rash, acne, or psoriasis
  • Burning or recurring bladder infections
  • Mental fog or difficulty concentrating

Do these symptoms sound familiar? Use our At Home Testing Kits to find out if Candida is the culprit.

How do you restore balance?

Effective treatment starts with repopulating the beneficial bacteria in your gut, which will get the Candida in check. Probiotics are a great way to regain that balance.

To enable your body to mount the greatest defense,  Y-C Cleanse is a homeopathic yeast cleanse designed to help kill excess yeast and candida.

Drinking anti-fungal tea can also be effective. Try herbal teas such as Pau d’Arco, chamomile and lemongrass.

When it comes to diet, it’s important to cut out sugar and carbohydrates to help get yeast under control. Sugar feeds the yeast; the more sugar you eat, the more the yeast craves it—it’s a vicious cycle! You can also cook with garlic, a natural fungicide that will help clear out the overgrowth of Candida.

why oh why do i have cancer of the a white leesion on the tongue. What i want to know, and i know you may not be doctors, and i do need to go on a diet of sorts, as my weight and food i eat would not be helping my cancer at all. I have heard so much of juicing, and eating whole foods, but i also know i have fatty liver, which irates me at times, with sickly feeling in my tummy, and i am diabetic 2 and i would guess i have candida, not sure on that one or gut leak syndrome. I am just not well in general. If anyone can help me to understand what i need to do, which will help me to beginning somewhere and heal myself from tongue cancer or at least shrink it, would be great. Thanks, and hope to hear from someone soon.

Hi Mary! You are right that eating a diet that supports your health is the place to start. Also ridding your body of toxins can be very helpful. We suggest that you look at the Fat Flush Plan. Going on it will accomplish both of these goals. Best of luck to you!

I had something similar to that on my tongue, turned out to be a fungus problem.
Went on Nystatin and an anti-fungal diet….just ate meat and veggies and berries. No more problems. Not only that, I felt like a million bucks on the diet and no more high cholesterol either. I wish you the best!
