8 Fruits & Veggies for Fall

Fall offers a crop of hearty foods to fortify our bodies before the challenges of winter.

When you’re taking a trip to the grocery store, or local farmer’s market, keep an eye out for these Fall produce favorites:

 1. Sweet Potatoes

These sweet spuds are packed with beta-carotene to amp up healthy eyesight. They are also high in vitamins C and D to help build up your immune system. Sweet potatoes are also rich in magnesium, a mineral linked to relaxation and good heart health.

2. Mushrooms

Exceptionally dense in nutrients, mushrooms offer vitamin D and an abundance of antioxidants. They are also a good source for biotin, which is essential for your metabolic process and plays a major role in keeping blood sugar at healthy levels. Mushrooms also offer up potassium for a healthy heart and kidneys.

3. Cranberries

High in flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds, these ruby treasures are effective in keeping your cholesterol  levels healthy. Cranberries also help sweep your liver and lymphatic system to support healthy digestion and absorption of nutrients.

4. Cabbage

This member of the cruciferous family is rich in vitamin C and two phytochemicals that help detox the body, ridding your cells of unwanted waste. 5. Cauliflower

6. Apples

With over 7000 different varieties, apples are a household favorite. Containing both soluble and insoluble fiber, they are known for aiding and promoting healthy digestion. A potent flavonoid, quercitin, is found in apple peel and has been shown to reduce the risk of heart attack by 32%.

7. Brussels Sprouts

These mini cabbage-look-alikes are abundant with vitamin C necessary for a healthy immune system. Brussels sprouts also contain fiber and folate for good digestive health.

8. Pumpkin

A member of the squash family, pumpkins are rich in alpha- and beta-carotene to promote healthy vision and cell growth. They also contain carotenoids that can help keep your skin youthful and wrinkle-free.
