3 Steps to Cleanse Your Colon

3 Steps to Cleanse Your Colon

Reverse GI distress with gentle and effective methods to cleanse your colon.

Fortifying the gastrointestinal system is the foundation to ward off gut grief. You must restore a healthy microbiome for immunity against gut-corrupting parasites, fungus, superbugs and food sensitivities, first and foremost. Then, re-balance hydrochloric acid in the stomach to improve digestion, prevent GERD and kill invading pathogens. And finally, take digestive enzymes for absorption and assimilation of critical nutrients while eliminating sugar and other toxic non-foods that feed invading gut corruptors and induce food allergies.

Our next step is the clean sweep.

A well-planned gut cleanse is the best way to flush all parasites and pathogens while creating an internal ecology healthy for us, but unfriendly for unwanted invaders. As you set aside time to deeply cleanse the colon, it is important to also sidestep foods that can induce food sensitivities, including sweets, molds and starches.

1. Colon Cleansing Starts with Colon Hydrotherapy

Nothing so effectively revitalizes and cleanses the colon as hydrotherapy. This can be achieved by either high colonic irrigation (a high enema), usually conducted by a professional hydrotherapist, or through self-administered home enemas. A high colonic with warm water is used to gently massage and cleanse the entire 5.5 feet of colon. This procedure can, in many cases, reconfigure the colon back to healthy form and function once bulges and pockets—where chemical toxins and critters hide—are dislodged of fecal matter.

The home enema cleanses up to twelve inches of the lower colon. Warm water can be augmented with the addition of garlic, vinegar or select essential oils that have anti-microbial action. Coffee enemas are highly effective because, in addition to colon cleansing, organic coffee included in the irrigation water stimulates both the liver and gallbladder to purge toxic bile. After the home enema is completed, a teaspoon of probiotic powder mixed with eight ounces of water can be inserted with an emptied Fleet’s enema bottle and retained for 15 minutes. This is an excellent way to replenish the colon with beneficial bacteria that defends against gut corruptors. Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D., CNS, has written extensively about all of the above in her bestselling books: The Gut Flush Plan and The Fast Track Detox Diet.

2. Get Down to the Nitty Gritty with Specialized Colon Cleansing

In addition to using hydrotherapy, most of us need to fine-tune our colon cleansing. Our greatest concerns are these troublesome gut corruptors: Candida albicans and a broad variety of parasites, including worms, flukes and single cell protozoans that find every opportunity to enter the human body.

Candida Cleansing

Candida is in the air, in the throat and in the gut of all humans. It is a normally harmless yeast. But when it grows out of control—for example when we consume sugar or even too many natural sugars from fruits and/or fruit juices—Candida can become an invasive troublemaker. Candida cells are constantly being released into the bloodstream to be processed by the liver. When yeast overgrowth overwhelms the liver, it stores Candida toxins as fat cells around the hips, belly and thighs.

An estimated eighty percent of people with multiple allergies and sweet cravings may have Candida overgrowth which causes symptoms of intense fatigue, sinus pain, headaches, joint problems, urinary infections and unwanted weight gain. Since a number of researchers have found evidence that Candida overload is linked to malignancies and also lymphocytic leukemia, [1] this is one gut corruptor that should never be ignored!

Here are the signs that a Candida yeast cleanse is urgently needed:

  • You crave sweets after every meal, whether you’re stuffed or not.
  • You can’t pass up the bread basket.
  • Stubborn belly bloat just won’t seem to go away.
  • Headaches and mental “fog” make it hard to focus.
  • Embarrassing gastrointestinal issues keep you hiding in the bathroom.

The solution is the conscientious and consistent cultivation of a healthy inner ecology with foods that daily replenish beneficial bacteria. These foods include: plain yogurt or kefir and naturally fermented foods, such as sauerkraut. Prebiotic foods, those which augment the creation of beneficial bacteria, are also important. Plant-based prebiotics include: asparagus, leeks, garlic, onions, oats, bananas, kimchi, tempeh and miso.

Also extremely valuable are supplements specifically designed to keep fungus and molds in check. Among the best probiotic formulas on the market is Flora-Key which has five powerful strains of beneficial bacteria. Another valuable fungus foiler is UNI KEY’s Y-C Cleanse, a homeopathic formula that specifically neutralizes Candida, as well as intestinal putrefactive substances (skatolum and indolum). This formula also enhances immunity with additional herbal ingredients, including Echinacea.

Parasite Cleansing

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that millions of people in the US carry health-wrecking parasites.[2] These invading opportunists are easily picked up from contaminated water, improperly washed fruits and vegetables, under-cooked foods and even from household pets. Ranging from microscopic organisms to 15-foot tapeworms, intestinal parasites can cause weight gain, damage organs, create toxicity, infiltrate the bloodstream and endanger the brain. Parasites are often overlooked, however, because their symptoms can mirror other illnesses.

Here are the signs that an intestinal parasite cleanse may be needed:

  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, or intermittent constipation
  • Foul gas, belching, and nausea
  • Overall fatigue, dark circles under the eyes
  • Unexplained weight loss, inability to gain or lose weight
  • Food or environmental allergies with telltale dark circles under the eyes
  • Grinding of the teeth during sleep

For over two decades UNI KEY has offered the “gold standard” in parasite elimination.  The Para-Key formula contains time-tested herbal ingredients to dislodge parasites naturally, including grapefruit seed extract and sweet wormwood, an internationally recognized microorganism eliminator. The Verma-Plus formula contains traditional vermicide ingredients used for centuries. Black walnut hulls help kill parasites, centaury releases parasite hooks and suckers, male fern purges larger organisms, and cloves prevent gas and intestinal spasms during the cleansing process. Used together, these two parasite formulas are a vital part of the clean sweep.

3. Be a Smooth Operator with Daily Colon Cleansing

Once we have achieved the clean sweep, and after we have fine-tuned our cleanse to eradicate both fungus and parasites, the final challenge is to keep the colon immune from constipation that could send us back to the starting line of gut grief. Chronic constipation affects 15 to 20% of the U.S. population. About 50% of chronic constipation is caused or made worse by pharmaceutical medications. A sedentary lifestyle contributes to stagnation, as do tobacco and caffeine, which can leave colon muscles weak and unresponsive.

Fewer than two to three bowel movements a day indicates possible constipation, which is more than discomfort. It can spell real danger from potentially harmful toxins that accumulate in the system if not regularly discharged. Constipation can also lead to eventual atrophy of the colon’s muscles and nerves.

You know you are constipated when you strain during bowel movements more than 25% of the time, have hard or painful stools more than 25% of the time, go more than a day or two without a bowel movement and have bloating or abdominal discomfort.

Drinking enough water (half your body weight in ounces daily), is critical for smoothly operating bowels. Adding 400 mg of magnesium in the morning and 400 mg in the evening can help relax the intestinal walls and establish normal peristalsis. UNI KEY’s Mag-Key contains four of the most absorbable forms of magnesium, plus vitamin B6 for proper assimilation.

Of course, fibrous fruits and vegetables are also crucial for healthy action in the colon. Dietary fiber comes from the indigestible portion of plants and is minimally processed by the body. It adds bulk to the stools and keeps them softer. Foods voted as best for preventing constipation include: cabbage, broccoli, nuts, non-gluten grains, berries, apples and dried fruits. Popcorn adds bulk too. These high fiber foods are well-documented to lower inflammation, prevent obesity and reduce the risk for diabetes. [3]

UNI KEY’s Super-GI Cleanse is a unique blend of colon cleansing herbs, natural fiber, enzymes and probiotics that act as a “broom” to sweep toxins and parasites from the GI tract. It also effectively relieves both intestinal and digestive discomfort of gas and bloat. This formula does not dehydrate the colon, and is safe for daily use, which ensures consistent and gentle elimination.

Keeping the GI tract in tip-top condition after a clean sweep most definitely includes an exercise regimen. Moderate daily exercise improves every aspect of health, especially elimination. It helps
the gut function more efficiently by encouraging waste products to move down and out.  For ideal maintenance, aim for at least 30-45 minutes of brisk walking daily.

In our next blog, we will explore surefire steps for nourishing the body while keeping gut corruptors at bay for good. We’ll define good dietary habits and outline helpful ideas for delicious meals that rebuild the GI tract, ensure efficient absorption of nutrients, eliminate toxins, turn off food allergies and keep the entire digestive system working in perfect harmony.
